That's because sunflowers became the symbol of a 2014 anti-China political movement involving Taiwanese students who protested a trade agreement with China that they saw as unfair to Taiwan.

Widespread reports claim Chinese authorities denied the singer's visa application following her controversial behaviour at a 2015 concert in Taiwan.

A source told Page Six that she applied for a Visa to enter to country, but it was denied by Chinese officials.

The model announced on Twitter on November 16 that she is "bummed" that she will not be attending the fashion show with the rest of the Angels. After Gigi's sister Bella posted an Instagram video back in February of her older sis holding a Buddha-shaped cookie and squinting her eyes, the Hadid sisters are BANNED!

She later apologized on her official Weibo account, but her fans pointed out that the message was not enough, since people outside of China could not see it.

The annual Victoria's Secret fashion show will go on later this month, but it will be without Gigi Hadid. Last year, Lady Gaga was banned from visiting China because she met with the Dalai Lama, and other celebs like Harrison Ford, Richard Gere and Maroon 5 have also been denied access.

'Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit'.

Hadid did not give a reason and Victoria's Secret refused to comment on the issue. She admitted on the Today Show that she doesn't actually feel like she deserves the award, according to Teen Vogue. 'For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country.

Model Adriana Lima's visa has been held up due to an ongoing "diplomatic problem". I feel so insane humbled to get the opportunity to be a part of this show again.Walking into the offices this year i felt so happy, healthy, and honored.

Model Gigi Hadid confirmed her absence on Twitter.

Question. why the HELL did Victoria's Secret execs pick China to host their internationally-famous fashion show?
