Sen. Rand Paul recovering at home after assault

Sen. Rand Paul recovering from 5 broken ribs

Rand Paul's absence while recovering from an assault in which his neighbor is charged creates another challenge in what's become a daily "Maalox moment" while trying to keep together his slim Republican majority. Police are calling it assault - and many people are trying to figure out why Paul's neighbor, a fellow medical doctor, might allegedly have attacked him with enough force to fracture five ribs.

Kentucky State Police said in a news release Saturday that Paul suffered a minor injuries when Boucher assaulted him at his Warren County home in a gated community on Friday afternoon.

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault", Paul spokesman Kelsey Cooper told the Bowling Green Daily News.

"Paul didn't get any severe injuries to his face", Robert stated that Paul did not get any face injuries and he did not discuss his assault to media.

Paul managed to throw Boucher off of him and they exchanged words, sources said.

Boucher was taken to the Warren County Jail, where records show he was released on Saturday on a $7,500 bond with a court date scheduled for Thursday.

Stafford said severe pain can last for weeks or even months with such injuries.

On Sunday, Paul's chief of staff told the Washington Post Paul sustained five broken ribs, as well as bruised lungs, and that he is in pain.

Paul and Boucher also had a previous disagreement about a property line involving a creek behind the lawmaker's house where Paul's sons would sometimes play, the source added.

It was unknown to them whether diplomacies were an impulse for the assault, in accordance to an older aide to the senator, who spoke on the status of anonymity because the aide was not commissioned to converse regarding the episode.

Paul in a Sunday tweet expressed gratitude toward those who had offered support following the incident. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers".

The attorney continued: 'Senator Paul and Dr. Boucher have been next door neighbors for 17 years. According to online records from the county jail, Boucher was released on a $7,500 bond on Saturday after spending almost 24 hours in the facility.
