Houston Texans Players Kneel En Masse After Owner Bob McNair's "Inmates" Comments

Seahawks consider trading TE Jimmy Graham to get left tackle: Report

Players, following the lead of former National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick, say they kneel to protest social injustices, particularly against African-Americans.

Instead, numerous Houston Texans players took a knee before their game against the Seahawks because of a comment made by the team owner, Bob McNair.

The Texans had indicated there would be some type of protest following comments by owner Bob McNair.

While some team members had protested previously, this week's demonstration appeared to be in response to owner Bob McNair's comments in an ESPN The Magazine article saying "we can't have the inmates running the prison", in reference to prior protests.

Seven Seahawks players - five in uniform and two inactive players - sat during the anthem, continuing the protest Michael Bennett started earlier this year.

It appears that McNair's apology was not enough for some players.

McNair did not meet with the players on Friday after the comment but instead waited until Saturday morning to apologize personally - which reportedly bothered some of the team's players.

While some players stood for the anthem by the bench, many knelt along the sideline.

The Houston Texans added offensive tackle Duane Brown to the active roster Saturday.

As the anthem began, Texans players looked around at each other and then the majority knelt in unison. "To use an analogy of inmates in a prison, I would say they're disrespectful".

According to the Houston Chronicle, this is the first time any Texans players has ever kneeled before the national anthem (though one player raised a fist once last season).
