Trump says he'll allow Kennedy assassination files to be released

Warren Commission Exhibits 2966a and Exhibit 2966b Lee Harvey Oswald distributing

Politico magazine earlier quoted Trump administration and other US government officials as saying the president would nearly certainly block the release of information from some of the thousands of classified files, which the US National Archives is due to make public by an October 26 deadline. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) of consorting with Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald right before the shooting.

If you think the government is hiding something about the Kennedy assassination, you may get to see what it is.

Despite serious questions about the official inquest, and theories purporting that organised crime, Cuba or a cabal of USA security agents was involved, conspiracy theorists have yet to produce conclusive proof that Oswald acted in consort with anyone.

By law however - and with Trump's tweeted stamp of approval - the documents are slated to be released Thursday.

Republican members of Congress, including Senate judiciary committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, have urged Trump to allow the full release of the documents.

But some experts fear the history that may be lost forever in unreadable documents in the trove. One per cent of the records are completely secret.

The move comes against the advice of federal bodies that have expressed concern at the release of the documents. But he wonders to what degree the papers will ultimately be released. Still a small portion, about 3,100 documents created inside the CIA, FBI and Justice Department, have been held back until now. The National Archives also has another 30,000 pages of information that have been disclosed before, but only partially and with redactions.

The classified files were scheduled to be made public by October 26, barring intervention by the president, under the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992. Morley said Harvey led the agency's assassinations operations and feuded constantly with Kennedy's brother, Robert F. Kennedy, over the administration's crisis with Cuba.

Posner said that the conspiracy theories about the Central Intelligence Agency and mob working together to assassinate a head of state are true - but the target was Cuban leader Fidel Castro, not Kennedy.

"What's in those files could tell us how those men did their jobs", said Morley, who wrote a 2008 book on the agency's Mexico City station chief. "We might understand much better why they were watching Oswald".
