Thanks to Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Egypt Qualifies for World Cup

Soccer Football- 2018 World Cup Qualifications – Africa- Egypt vs Uganda- Alexandria Egypt

An injury-time penalty from Liverpool's Mohammed Salah ensured Egypt's qualification as they beat Congo 2-1 on Sunday to move into an unassailable position at the top of their group with one match still to complete.

Congo nearly ruined Egypt's World Cup party, after Boukah Moulou cancelled Mohammed Salah's 64th minute goal in the 87th minute but a late penalty scored by Salah made things go back to normal for the egyptian nation.

Congo nearly ruined the party when Arnold Bouka volleyed home to peg back the hosts after Salah's second-half opener.

The country last qualified for the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

After a 0-0 first half, Salah eventually calmed the Egyptian fans nerves by breaking the deadlock in the 63rd minute.

But an energised stadium was flattened just minutes from full time when Bouka-Moutou ghosted in at the far post to slam a volley home past Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary.

The desperation to qualify ahead of the game was so great that Egypt's Argentinian coach Hector Cuper admitted he was taking medication for high blood pressure.

Egypt got a reprieve in added time when substitute Mahmoud Hassan was brought and Salah restored the lead from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way to clinch a place in Russian Federation next year.

"It's been 28 years and we're finally going to enter the World Cup".

Earlier this year, the North Africans - whose first World Cup appearance was way back in 1934 - finished runners-up in the Africa Cup of Nations.
