Rapper, robo-calls enter marriage debate

Tony Abbott Is Mad That Macklemore Is Performing 'Same Love' At The NRL Grand Final

Seattle rapper Macklemore has criticized a petition that calls for him to not perform his marriage equality hit "Same Love" at a rugby league grand final in Australia.

Former NRL player Tony Wall said the event will be "very hard to watch" with his kids if Macklemore performs Same Love, while former PM Tony Abbott tweeted that sports fans "shouldn't be subjected to a politicised grand final".

'I'm gonna go harder, I'm going to love'.

"I think there was a petition today to ban me from playing", he added.

"I believe in free speech".

Macklemore has since responded to the controversy surrounding his upcoming NRL Grand Final performance, after being criticised by "angry old white dudes" for planning to perform "Same Love" in Sydney on Sunday night.

"It's one thing to let either side of the debate advertise during the finals, it's a completely different thing to embed same-sex marriage advocacy as an official statement", he said.

Same-sex marriage is a hotly contested topic in Australia right now, with the postal vote currently underway.

'Footy fans shouldn't be subjected to a politicised grand final.

"So it's interesting times in Australia".

"Same Love" is one of Macklemore's biggest hits, and it is indeed about same-sex marriage.

The misogynist failed politician, who once said "What the housewives of Australia need to understand as they do the ironing...", also once admitted about homosexuality, "I probably feel a bit threatened, as so many people do".

Former PM and prominent No campaigner Tony Abbott tweeted his support for the petition.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull appeared on Channel Ten's "The Project" to hit back and insist Macklemore should be allowed to perform the song.

Australian MP Bob Katter has taken a swipe at the NRL for booking American rapper Macklemore to perform at this weekend's Grand Final, calling the decision like "seeping sewerage into the debutante ball". However, Australian conservatives, led by Abbott, are arguing that Macklemore is injecting politics into sports, where they don't belong.
