Lavrov on Trump, North Korea: 'We Have to Calm Down the Hotheads'

Russia and China urge 'peaceful' solution with North Korea

Lavrov spoke in an interview with The Associated Press after his meeting late Tuesday with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

The nuclear accord, signed by Russian Federation, the United States, Germany, China, Iran, and Britain, was originally negotiated during former U.S. President Barack Obama's second term in office.

China and Somalia enjoy a long history of friendship, Wang said, adding that China was one of the countries that first recognized Somalia's independence and Somalia was the first country in East Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday called the most recent back and forth between Washington and Pyongyang "unacceptable", saying that the countries involved should cool their hotheaded behavior. Later, the US president responded with a tweet calling Kim a "madman" who will be tested like never before.

"We do not see any reasonable arguments against our proposals, Lavrov said, adding that he did not see why countries like the U.S".

"Negotiation is the only way out and deserves every effort", Wang told the UN General Assembly, where two days earlier US President Donald Trump threatened to "totally destroy" the Chinese ally.

As a result, "the enormous potential of our bilateral relations" isn't being realized and global issues aren't being solved because the US and Russian Federation can not coordinate, he said. Trump, who has authority for thousands of nuclear warheads, then responded on Twitter Friday, "Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!"

Lavrov was asked whether he saw a link between the crisis in North Korea and Trump's threat to pull out of the 2015 agreement to cap Iran's nuclear program.

If the Iran nuclear deal falls apart, he said, "then North Korea would say, 'why do I need to negotiate with you if you do not carry out your promises?'"
