Kuldeep makes history with hat-trick

Kuldeep Yadav's brilliant hat-trick inspired India to a comprehensive 50-run victory against Australia in the second one-day global on Thursday.

India were down in the dumps at 87/5 in Chennai, before young all-rounder Hardik Pandya (83) and seasoned campaigner MS Dhoni (79) upturned the script with an 118-run six wicket stand that helped the hosts post a challenging total, which the Kangaroos could not match up to in a rain-truncated chase.

Bhuvneshwar, who scored a match-winning half century in Sri Lanka before this series, said he always possessed batting skill and it was his knock against the Sri Lankans that gave him confidence he can score in ODIs too. They took India to 239, adding 35 from 53 balls for the seventh wicket.

The West Australian paceman again snared the prized scalp of Virat Kohli, but the Indian skipper had already done the damage with a beautifully compiled 92 off 107 balls.

He named former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson and "Mr. Cricket" Mike Hussey in his all-time ODI side.

In an IPL match here this term, the fabled Royal Challengers Bangalore batting had folded for 49 inside 10 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders' pace, with Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes and Colin de Grandhomme taking three wickets apiece.

The skipper didn't relent though, as he joined forces with Kedar Jadhav to keep the scoreboard chugging along. India has a good record at Eden Gardens and if Rohit Sharma fires today then no one can stop India to win the match.

One man Smith will be looking to emulate is Virat Kohli.

The first ball in India vs Australia 2nd ODI match will be bowled at 13:30 hrs IST (08:00 GMT) on Thursday.

The weather took a toll on the Aussies as well, with both Coulter-Nile and Cummins resorting to cooling down with the constant use of wet towels and hydration during drinks breaks.

Ajinkya Rahane, who was dismissed for mere five runs in the Chennai ODI, made causative 55 runs in Kolkata.

When Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Manish Pandey all departed within seven balls of one another, India were flailing at 4/30 and firmly on the ropes. Play resumed after a 14-minute delay, and the explosive finish India wanted simply didn't materialise: the last 15 balls of the innings only produced 15 runs, for the loss of their last four wickets.

"(But) we knew if we had a good start, we had a chance".

Pacer Pat Cummins (1/34) and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar (1/54) also picked up a wicket each for Australia.
