Watch Series 3 has LTE connectivity problems: reviewers

Apple's (AAPL) “Buy” Rating Reaffirmed at Loop Capital

To date, most wearables have been application-specific (tracking steps, heart rate, etc.) or tethered to a smartphone. I don't get it. Site editor Lauren Goode noticed that her Watch was not only struggling to connect to LTE, but would also connect to random wireless networks. Apple began taking preorders for the device last Friday.

Apple Inc. shares declined Wednesday morning after the tech company reportedly admitted there are issues with connectivity of its new Apple Watch Series 3. In fact, I believe Apple will double its sales of Apple Watches in the next 18 months thanks to this new cellular feature. "It's more for the times when you're on a run and need to make a call".

"We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular", Apple explained to The Verge. Users have reported problems sending messages from Miscosoft Outlook or Exchange accounts linked to iOS 11's Mail app. Users have been receiving "Cannot Send Mail" errors, and Apple has confirmed to 9to5Mac that it is "working closely with Microsoft" to fix the problem. Previous versions of the Apple Watch needed to connect wirelessly to an iPhone for full functionality.

Heart rate monitoring: Over the past couple of years when I have used the Apple Watch, I have been fascinated by the heart rate date in my HeathKit. I would much prefer this watch if it were black. There are rumors that Apple is working on something like this, but even if it does ideal the technology, it needs FDA approvals that could take years.

In plain language, the Apple Watch 3 seems to be connecting to wireless networks it shouldn't be, which then screws up LTE connectivity, since the Watch 3 is effectively creating a connectivity dead end, then doubling down on it.

Another fairly positive review came from Buzzfeed's Nicole Nguyen, who declared the Apple Watch Series 3 the "best smartwatch I've ever used" but explained that since most wearables were pretty very bad, that wasn't a great compliment.
