New Miss America chides Trump for withdrawing from worldwide climate accord

3rd night of Miss America preliminaries set for Friday

But the crown ultimately went to Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund.

Cara Mund, a Brown University graduate and future law-school student, became the first Miss North Dakota ever to be crowned Miss America Sunday night in Atlantic City, N.J.

During the Q&A portion of the contest, Mund was asked for her thoughts on President Donald Trump withdrawing the United States from the global climate accord.

This feat has left a mark in the pageant's history, as the new Miss America is the first victor from the Rough Rider State.

Miss Missouri, Jennifer Davis, did not answer the Trump-hating question "correctly", and now she is not Miss America. Mund replied that she believes it was a bad decision on behalf of the USA because it took the country out of the negotiation table.

"Whether you believe it (climate change) or not, we need to be at that table", she added. Kinsey said because her father is a former police officer, she would not, but in the District of Columbia, she takes Uber rides, so it would be the driver's choice. Laryssa travels the state promoting her platform: Team Charlotte: Fighting Pancreatic Cancer, a platform that is near to her heart following the death of her grandmother from pancreatic cancer. And that's something that we really need to keep in mind. "Despite the circumstances, she's always told me, you can't control the cards you're dealt, but you can control the hand", Mund said during the event. There is evidence that climate change is existing.

Mund, who is given to saying "awesome!" and "amazing!" informed the small crowd that Klapperich had just won Miss Congeniality, the title bestowed by pageant contestants on one of their peers.

As judges were narrowing the field of 51 contestants (each state plus the District of Columbia), they interviewed Zeng, 22, of Palm Coast, who noted that her family was safe.

But she expressed concern and support for friends and strangers endangered by Hurricane Irma, which was tearing its way up the Florida gulf coast on Sunday.

Cara Mund participates in Evening Wear challenge during Miss America 2018.

The victor will take over for the current titleholder, Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields of Arkansas.

In addition to the newly crowned Miss America's prizes, the second place winner takes home a $25,000 scholarship, the third place winner wins a $20,000 scholarship, and the fourth place winner takes home a $10,000 scholarship.
