Hurricane Irma: Lowe's customer gives last generator to fellow shopper

Man gives up last generator at Lowe's to woman in need before Hurricane Irma hits

The generators sold out within two hours, managers at the Lowe's store told the ABC affiliate.

That includes Pam Brekke, of Sanford, who drove 30 miles to a Lowe's when she heard the store was getting a shipment of 216 generators.

This lady's father is on oxygen. Then, a customer with a generator in his cart approached her and told her she could have it.

"My father is on oxygen and I'm anxious about this storm", Brekke said.

As luck would have it, when it was Brekke's turn to claim a generator, she learned there were no more to be bought, that she had missed out by just one customer.

"He's an angel from God is what he is", Brekke said.

"She needs the generator", Santiago told WFTV-TV of his decision to offer the woman the last power supply.

Mr Santiago put his arms around Ms Brekke and they shared a warm embrace as he reassured her everything would be okay.

"I'm very overwhelmed by that man", Brekke said with tears in her eyes. She said she had just finished her shift doing the morning news and was queuing with a pile of batteries in preparation for the storm.

"I wanted to make sure (Santiago) received it", said Melissa Rodriguez. "That gentleman was a great gentleman right there". On Friday, Santiago returned to Lowe's with WFTV to get his own generator for free from the store.
