After trade to Dodgers, Curtis Granderson will pay unexpected visit to Detroit

Curtis Granderson is going to the best team in baseball.

Granderson was acquired from the New York Mets on Friday for a player to be named later and cash considerations.

The 36-year-old Granderson has a.254 career batting average with 312 home runs and 853 RBIs in 1,760 games spanning 14 major league seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2004-09), New York Yankees (2010-13) and New York Mets (2014-17). The Dodgers didn't give up a whole lot to get him, but, then, they don't exactly need him, either-the Dodgers are deep with quality outfielders, such that they've started Cody Bellinger at first base in 30 of their last 32 games. While he's hitting only.228 this season, he has a very respectable.815 OPS and has slugged 19 home runs in 395 plate appearances. "But an opportunity to be able to go play in the postseason is exciting".

"Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to do that this year", Granderson said.

Murray hears that the club is interested in re-signing the right-hander, whose two-year, $26 million contract is set to expire with the end of the 2017 season.

This move is similar to the moves the Dodgers have made in the past during the waiver trade deadline, in 2015 they acquired veteran Chase Utley, and a year ago it was veteran catcher Carlos Ruiz.

Granderson, 36, will join the Dodgers amid his fourth season with the Mets and 14th overall, after four seasons with the New York Yankees and six with the Detroit Tigers, who chose him in the third round of the 2002 draft out of the University of IL at Chicago.? According to unnamed sources within the organization, the team has yet to discuss the specifics of an extension, but both sides have stated interest in working out a deal.
