Trump again cites 'military' option against North Korea

GETTY
WARNING China will stop the US from taking out Kim Jong-un

The US also flew warplanes over the Korean Peninsula.

An American president has said this kind of thing before, although, it must be noted, he was actually in the act of waging a nuclear war.

The diplomatic contacts are occurring regularly between Joseph Yun, the US envoy for North Korea policy, and Pak Song Il, a senior North Korean diplomat at the country's United Nations mission, according to USA officials and others briefed on the process. The language indicated China wants to push forward with a diplomatic proposal for North Korea that the Trump administration has brushed aside. The trip has been long scheduled and was not arranged in response to the North Korean nuclear threat.

The reason, of course, that Guam is in the news is because of Trump's threats regarding North Korea.

Dunford prefaced his Asia trip with a trip to Hawaii to meet with US Pacific Command, and will visit also visit key ally Japan, as well as regional superpower China.

President Donald Trump has issued fresh threats of swift and forceful retaliation against nuclear North Korea, declaring the us military "locked and loaded" and warning that the communist country's leader "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against USA territories or allies.

Kim, the North Korean leader, will "truly regret it and he will regret it fast" if he utters an overt threat at Guam or any territory belonging to the US or its allies, he added.

"We will see what happens", Trump said.

A notice put out by Guam's Joint Information Center Saturday warned residents how to prepare "for an imminent missile threat".

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam...and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or confident with you at the helm", Calvo said, according to a video posted to his Facebook page.

Japanese Air Self-Defense Force units arrived in the three prefectures as well as in Ehime earlier in the day, NHK said. He did not elaborate. Analysts said that a wide swath of the continental United States, including Los Angeles and Chicago, could be within reach of those missiles, once they're perfected.

"So unless those North Korean missiles were to fall short, the Patriots shouldn't have a function to serve in this particular case", he said.

North Korea has also threatened to fire intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Japan, the Daily Mail notes.

Aegis is able to track 100 missiles simultaneously and fire interceptors to take out an enemy's ballistic projectiles.

China is unlikely to pressure North Korea at Trump's request while the USA sells $1.4 billion of arms to Taiwan and accuses China of human rights violations.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday called for a peaceful solution to the nuclear standoff, saying that "there must not be another war on the Korean Peninsula", according to his office.

A major point of dispute will likely be American plans to deploy more missile defenses in South Korea, he said. The annual exercises, called Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, are expected to run from August 21 to 31.

State media portrayed Xi as the voice of calm amid a trade-off of threats this week between Pyongyang and Washington.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described escalation as "the wrong answer", while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Trump's statements were "very worrying".

In the wake of media and political backlash over the fire and fury comment, President Trump doubled down on his statement, adding that perhaps he did not go far enough.

A White House statement said Trump and President Emmanuel Macron had discussed "the increasingly unsafe situation associated with North Korea's destabilizing and escalatory behavior".

North Korea is angry about new United Nations sanctions over its expanding nuclear weapons and missile program and the upcoming military drills between Washington and Seoul.

The Kims have kept a tight grip on North Korea internally through a brutal system of repression and fear, and have increasingly kept the outside world at bay by developing nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. "The concern we have before was that a lot of people don't know where we were".

"Faith is so deeply rooted into our culture", he said.

Trump told Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo that tourism would boom on the island due to the attention it has received over the global crisis.

"I wish there would be less partisanship up there", Calvo told Trump. "And I think tourism, I can say this, your tourism, you're going to go up like tenfold with the expenditure of no money, so I congratulate you".

As an unincorporated United States territory, citizens of Guam can not vote in general elections. We are rock solid, and we have the best in the world by a factor of five.

Still, analysts said it was a "mystery" whether either side would uphold the military treaty should conflict really break out.

"You're playing with people's lives".

"I just wanted to pay my respects, and we are with you 1,000 percent".
