The Chinese soldiers hurled stones while attempting to enter Ladakh region near Pangong Lake on Tuesday but were confronted by Indian soldiers, said a top police officer.

Chinesesoldiers tried to enter the Indian side twice between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Personnel from both sides received some injuries in stone-pelting.

Their attempts were foiled by Indian troops.

Nauert was responding to questions on the skirmish between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh and continued standoff in Doklam area.

She said the People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops always patrol along the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Earlier on Tuesday, as per a report by Hindustan Times, which quoted an unnamed source, "The Chinese patrol refused to move when the Indian side first showed banners that they were in Indian Territory, as per the settled drill". The officer said Indian soldiers retaliated but neither side used guns.

Indian and Chinese soldiers yelled and hurled stones at one another in the high Himalayas in Indian-controlled Kashmir, Indian officials said Wednesday after an altercation that escalated tensions between two nations already engaged in a lengthy border standoff elsewhere.

India has protested the construction of a road by the Chinese military in the area claimed by its ally Bhutan, fearing it would allow Beijing to cut off India s access to its northeastern states.

The army was apparently countering reports of a fresh clash breaking out with Chinese troops in the Doklam Plateau, where a almost two-month-long stand-off over a trilateral border terroritorial ownership is still on.
