Tropical storm warnings issued for Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula

Forecasters continuing to watch 2 disturbances in the Atlantic

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Risk has increased its forecast, which brings it more into line with others such as Colorado State. At this time we will stick with a persistence forecast of a mix of sun and clouds each day with the chance of scattered to numerous mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms.

NASA's Aqua satellite provided a look at the extent of the storm's clouds on August 7 at 3:10 p.m. EDT (19:10 UTC).

In addition to the heavy rain, waves in excess of 10 feet could reach the eastern Yucatan coast, including Cozumel and Cancun, by tonight, lingering into Tuesday. The MODIS image also revealed the storm had developed an eye. No direct impacts to the United States are expected from Franklin, as the storm will stay well to our south as it heads westward this week. It's because of this criteria that the NHC named Franklin as the sixth tropical storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.

Wind gusts equal to or greater than 50 km/h: Durango, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Tabasco, southern Veracruz, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Najarit, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala.

"These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods", the NHC said it the advisory.

"There are strong signals that the wave will become a tropical storm before it moves west-northwest into the coast of Belize or Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula late Monday".

A tropical storm warning was posted for the Mexican coast from Rio Lagartos to Sabancuy and from Veracruz to Rio Panuco.

It's moving west-northwest at 13 miles per hour.

Its center was about 55 miles (86 kilometers) north-northwest of Chetumal, Mexico.

Franklin, which formed late Sunday night., was no threat to Florida and the Atlantic disturbance wasn't a threat at this point either. On the current track, Franklin will move across the Yucatan Peninsula Tuesday and will gather strength as it moves over the Bay of Campeche.
