North Korea, Russia foreign ministers agree to resolve issues 'diplomatically'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

The U.S. government will respond by the end of this month to the Russian government's decision to reduce the number of American diplomatic staff in Russia by more than 700, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Monday morning, according to an Associated Press report.

"We had a long conversation with Rex Tillerson", said Lavrov.

Tillerson and Lavrov's meeting comes after US President Donald Trump signed a bill passed overwhelmingly by Congress imposing new sanctions on Russian Federation. The House of the Representatives and the US Congress legislated the sanctions law which was signed by President Donald Trump.

Rex Tillerson, the U.S. Secretary of State has offered to settle the now frosty relationship between America and Russian Federation even as he noted that it is needles for both countries to cut ties over disagreements.

While Tillerson noted that Russian election interference had "created serious mistrust between our two countries", Trump has continued to express doubt about the meddling, especially while stressing his distrust in the USA intelligence community.

"I don't think it is useful to just cut everything off on one single issue", the more taciturn Tillerson said on Monday.

He asked Lavrov "several clarifying questions" about Moscow's retaliatory moves and warned his Russian counterpart that the US would respond to these actions by September 1, according to RFE/RL. Throughout, Trump has also denied collusion between his camp and Russian Federation during election season. Russian Federation will also seize U.S. diplomatic compounds, as a further indication of their anger towards the new sanctions.

"We want to work with them on areas that are [of] serious national security interest to us, while at the same time having this extraordinary issue of mistrust that divides us", Tillerson added.

He also expects to have discussions on additional topics concerning "threats to all of us and our common response to that" as well as "opportunities that exist among all of those to strengthen relationships".

Ministers discuss Syrian conflict, Astana talks and visa-free travel for Turkish citizens to Russian Federation on ASEAN sidelines.

According to Lavrov, Tillerson had asked him during the meeting on what measures the Kremlin intends to take in response to new economic sanctions imposed on them by the USA government.

By contrast, U.S. trade with the European Union totaled over $3.6 trillion in 2014, and trade with China was almost $687 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Human rights groups have questioned the Trump administration's willingness to engage with Duterte. Russian Federation will respond accordingly in the future.

Lavrov told reporters that despite strained relations with Washington, his country was ready for more engagement with the USA on North Korea, Syria, Ukraine and other pressing matters.

If the two leaders discussed those or other US concerns about Duterte's government, they didn't do so in public. This painful problem must go through together only, concluded Mr Lavrov.

The United States and European Union have imposed sanctions on Russian Federation after it annexed Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula in March 2014 and for its support of separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine. "Other current global matters, including the internal conflict in Ukraine, were also discussed", the Ministry wrote.
