Donald Trump-Russia investigators ask White House for documents about Michael Flynn

Special counsel Robert Mueller wants documents from White House on Michael Flynn's ties to Turkey

Members of the sweeping federal investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller requested the White House submit documents linked to Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn, according to the paper, citing authorities close to the investigation.

They are said to have questioned witnesses about his dealings with Turkish-American lobbyist Ekim Alptekin, who paid his consulting firm Flynn Intel Group $530,000 during the USA election previous year.

Defense Intelligence Agency director US Army Lt.

At a campaign rally in West Virginia on Friday, he dismissed the allegations and investigation as "fake news".

Reportedly, Mueller and his team are now investigating not only whether Flynn failed to report his links to a foreign government as required by law or if he had illicit ties with Russian elements, but all of Flynn's business connections throughout the campaign.

He told the Justice Department about the deal and retroactively registered as a foreign agent in March this year, one month after he was forced out of the White House for lying about his contact with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak before President Trump's inauguration.

His work includes lucrative speaking engagements with Russian businesses. The document request is the first known instance of the special counsel asking the White House to hand over records.

Trump has publicly warned Mueller that his financial dealings should be out of bounds and investigating them would cross a red line.

Flynn resigned from the Trump administration in February after reports surfaced he had misled senior White House officials about his past conversations with Kremlin officials.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's interference in the USA presidential election and the Trump campaign appears to be making headway as he sends a request to the White House for documents on former security adviser Michael Flynn.
