Danilo Gallinari Suffers Thumb Injury After Punching Opponent in Face

Clippers forward Danilo Gallinari suffered a right thumb injury while playing in an exhibition with Italy.

Danilo Gallinari will miss the 2017 EuroBasket tournament for one of the dumbest reasons: He punched an opponent in the face and broke his hand.

Both bigs were fighting for position to get a rebound. The punch sent Gallinari to a hospital to have his hand examined. The 6-foot-9 Kok, who played college basketball at San Diego, appeared to strike Gallinari in the head with a forearm when boxing him out.

However, most fans only read the "fracture" and "hand" part of that tweet and assumed that Gallinari had fractured his hand and would miss extended time.

He is expected to make a full recovery and no surgery is expected, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 6-foot-10 forward came to L.A. after inking a sign-and-trade deal worth $63 million over three years. Many made jokes that Blake Griffin had already worn off on Gallinari, since Griffin had injured his hand punching a member of the team's staff two seasons ago.
