Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich will retire today

Report Patriots Defensive End Rob Ninkovich Expected to Retire

New England Patriots defensive stalwart and leader Rob Ninkovich has chose to call it a career, and will be making the move official later today at a 12:15 pm press conference. Just today, a star of the Patriots announced his retirement in the NFL after eleven seasons in the league.

Ninkovich entered the National Football League as a fifth-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints in 2006 out of Purdue.

A fifth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2006, he was waived four times by the Saints and Miami Dolphins before joining the Patriots just before the start of the 2009 season - after spending that offseason trying to make the Saints as a long snapper. He started in 94 consecutive games over the course of his career in New England.

Ninkovich was also part of a pair of Super Bowl-winning teams with the Patriots.

Ninkovich recorded 46 sacks, 14 fumble recoveries, and five interceptions during his time with the Pats.

Despite his seemingly sudden retirement, there are no hard feelings between Ninkovich and the Patriots.

But by the end of the year, in the team's most critical games, his playing time had spiked.

When Ninkovich was with New Orleans, he dealt with injuries, and coaches struggled to find a good fit for him in their 4-3 defense.

After Belichick was Robert Kraft who spoke about how important he was to the organization and became a fan favorite.

"He's got a lot of great attributes, and one of the best, I think, is his first name", Kraft joked "Secondly, as Coach and I have described, he was a great player for us for almost a decade". I hope I can take that knowledge you've given me over the years, and if I'm coaching or in football or doing something, and pass it on to the next group of guys. "I love this game". He was a little bit of a 'Was he a linebacker? "I know he's a great teammate as well".
