Trump's White House personnel shuffle eclipses his own message on gang violence

Russian President Vladimir Putin

Law enforcement agencies condemned police violence Friday after President Trump advised NY officers "don't be too nice" during arrests.

He described the precautions typically taken by police where they place a hand over a suspect's head while they're being put into a police vehicle to protect them.

In the ideal world, such a statement would be unwarranted, but the SCPD was responding to Trump's speech earlier in the day, during which POTUS told a bunch of cops in Brentwood, NY to "please not be too nice" to suspects they've arrested.

He went on: "Like, when you guys put somebody in the vehicle and you're protecting their head, you know, the way you put your hand over" their head.

US President Donald Trump has said that police force should be tougher on undocumented immigrants who are arrested and taken into custody.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: One by one, we're finding the illegal gang members - drug dealers, thieves, robbers, criminals and killers.

Law and order speeches aren't very popular with the left, as you can imagine.

The apparent endorsement of legal violence was later rejected by several law enforcement agencies, in an attempt to distance themselves from the controversy.

Railing against the MS-13 gang, he suggested that the Long Island suburbs are so out of control they are akin to Cambodia or Iraq.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Trump may not be getting along these days, but the two are on the same page when it comes to policing.

Many other topics came up in the speech, as the president varied between reading from a prepared script on his teleprompter and ad-libbing his own observations and opinions. But she says they didn't take her seriously. "We're going to support you like you've never been supported before". Sure. But the people didn't vote for a president that is "business as usual"; they voted for a president who has respect for the Thin Blue Line, and who is not afraid of bringing down controversy if it starts a debate.

Trump's audience, mostly police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department, cheered Trump's praise for police brutality. "We can not accept this violence one day more".

Vanita Gupta, who headed the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division under former President Barack Obama, said Trump's remarks were "unconscionable" and undermined the positive efforts of local law enforcement to build up community trust.
