Couple arrested in Utah for administering drugs to their newborn

Colby Glen Wilde 29 and Lacey Dawn Christenson 26

Officials with the Sheriff's Office said in the news release that investigators found Suboxone, in both solid and crushed pill form, in the couple's home while executing a search warrant June 28.

Wilde and Christenson, 26, were initially arrested on June 26 in connection with a theft at a local Walmart, according to the sheriff's office. They allegedly continued giving the baby drugs when they returned home.

The shocking revelation unfolded after Wilde and Christenson entered a Walmart supermarket in the city of Spanish Fork with his two-month-old daughter in a vehicle seat in a shopping trolley.

She was arrested on an outstanding warrant regarding a traffic violation.

As investigators pressed the couple about their drug use, they reportedly admitted that they started crushing up narcotics and putting it on their newborn's gums the very day she was born, while still in the hospital. After obtaining a warrant to search the home Deputies discovered items of drug paraphernalia in many different areas of the home, including next to a baby bassinet, next to a childs sippy cup, and others.

Reports state that the couple's three other children- all boys, ages 2, 4 and 8 - were taken into custody by the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, after their parents' arrest.

Using the description from Walmart loss prevention employees a Deputy with the Utah County Sheriffs Office, who was near the area, found the suspect driving away from the area and stopped him in the parking lot.

Wilde crushed pills of Suboxone, a drug used to treat heroin addiction and withdrawal, and forced the powder down his daughter's throat. The baby tested positive for heroin and morphine, authorities said. All four of the children are now being looked after by the father of the eldest boy.

Christenson is seen pregnant with one of her older children in 2012.

The oldest boy's father took custody of all four children, not wanting to separate them. It was there police learnt the shocking story of the infant girl.

"But there is plenty of evidence that the drug gets diverted; police seize it, addicts talk about how easy it is to buy".

They are now being held in a county jail on a $10,000 cash bail.

Because the four children lived in the home and could have been in unsafe proximity to the paraphernalia and prescription pills, the police added four counts each for Wilde and Christenson for child endangerment, which is a third-degree offence. The Sheriff's Office also said it found Suboxone.

The two younger boys and the infant girl all tested positive for methamphetamine.

Christenson was released from jail on June 28, and Wilde was released on July 5 after posting bond.

Babies are being born suffering from drug addiction withdrawals at a historic pace, increasing five-fold across the USA between 2003 and 2012. They also caught Christenson in the act of smoking heroin.

Christenson was inside Walmart with Wilde when the theft occurred.

After being in-and-out from jail due to bail, the couple was arrested again on July 18 and booked on felony charges, including distribution of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone, possession of heroin and meth, endangerment of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.
