Israel bars men under 50 from Jerusalem Old City prayers

Israeli police take high positions before Friday prayers

Late Friday, Abbas declared the Palestinian Authority was "freezing" all contacts with Israel over the ongoing violence at the Temple Mount (known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif).

The measures were put in place by Israel following the deaths of two police officers in East Jerusalem on June 14.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he would freeze all contacts with Israel in protest over the new measures, though it wasn't clear whether that would target security coordination in the West Bank.

The Arab League will hold an emergency ministerial meeting on Wednesday to discuss recent Israeli escalations against Palestinians, according to an Arab League statement on Sunday.

Israeli forces raided the home of an alleged Palestinian attacker who killed three Israeli settlers and wounded another on Friday, the military said on Saturday, and vowed to destroy the family abode.

"Entry to the Old City and Temple Mount will be limited to men aged 50 and over".

Clashes also erupted at the Qalandia checkpoint, the main Palestinian passageway between Ramallah and Jerusalem, where Israeli security forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Amir Abdollahian stressed that putting restrictions on Palestinian worshipers in al-Aqsa Mosque runs counter to the global law and the commitment the Israeli regime has undertaken, warning that stronger limitations on "the true owners of Palestine" would trigger a new Intifada.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said one Palestinian was killed during a separate clash outside the city, taking the death toll from the past two days to seven. Worshipers refused to enter the Al-Aqsa mosque, instead praying in the street, to protest new security checks at the mosque.

The report claims that police forces would be deployed to carry out searches by handheld detectors at the gates of Al Aqsa.

On Friday, Israel closed the Al-Aqsa compound for Friday prayers after it installed metal detectors at its entrances, citing security concerns. Bin said the attacker was wounded and evacuated to hospital.
