Expect more Super NES Classic units than with NES Mini

Like last year's NES Classic Edition, the SNES Classic is a retro remake of the 16-bit console. So, some good news out there today is that Nintendo will be manufacturing an SNES Classic Edition with a never before released game. This is similar to the NES Classic, which Nintendo says that it had only planned to ship for the Christmas 2016 shopping season. It's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Here are the details.

The Super NES Classic Edition will retail for $79.99 and is set to be released Sept.29 - so mark those calendars, people! The difference is that the SNES controllers will be a little longer: two extra feet, to be exact.

"It's important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive", Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé in late April. The original game console launched in 1991, debuting now-classic games like Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid and more. And they made it a true bonus game: The only way to unlock the new game is through playing (and hopefully beating) the original StarFox game. Originally meant to be released in 1995, the game was unceremoniously cancelled and so never saw the light of day. That's your own decision so I'll let you be on that.

Nintendo SNES Classic: What else is included?

The Super NES Classic will also be capable of saving where you left off in all 21 games, making starting games from scratch a thing of the past.

You can currently pre-order the right now from EB Games.

This time round though, there will be several cosmetic differences to the console, depending on where you buy it from. Still, having your name on a waiting list is better than nothing. However, demand was so great that the company produced a few more additional units before officially shutting down production - to the ire of many gamers. There is some bad news, however. While a playable build of Star Fox 2 has been widely available via ROM sites for years now, this is the first time Nintendo has ever released any official version of the game.

Sadly, all signs point to yes.
