In 'The Last Knight,' round 5 for the Transformers

You can hardly blame Michael Bay for continuing to work with the franchise, for it allows him to do what he does best and paint of the biggest canvas imaginable (reportedly 98% of the film was shot on IMAX cameras) - indeed, for all of the very bad dialogue, the preposterousness of the story and some hammy acting, it's Bay's penchant for all things action that gives The Last Knight it's saving grace. While most filmmakers go for economy of storytelling, Bay's ethos is to always add more.

It's like Bay and Hasbro's executives had a meeting one day to throw out names from Transformers history they could shoehorn into the movie.

"They need to figure out how they want to step forward in the universe and then it will come from that, but we would love to work with Michael again".

Cogman is a scene-stealer.

This fifth Transformers film reintroduced audiences to Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager, the bumbling inventor, now turned fugitive after the events of the fourth movie as he is protecting and repairing the Autobots in the absence of Optimus Prime.

He's a sort of keeper of the Arthurian/Transformers legend, and he knows that a long-forecast climactic battle is coming for control of Merlin's staff, an ancient relic that has formidable powers when wielded by the right person. When he arrives on his home planet Cybertron, he's put under the spell of the evil Quintessa (Gemma Chan), and told that he must destroy Earth in order for Cybertron to live.

Eight years ago, Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" generated more than $400 million.

Four new movies will debut Wednesday, headlined by the newest Transformers movie - "Transformers: The Last Knight". The movie does not give enough emphasis on the "the last knight". Oh, and yes, Optimus, we know what your name is. It seems that after four movies where the transformers fight in the streets and skies of the good old United States of America, the creators behind this franchise felt a need for a change for the fifth movie.

Bonaventura also confirmed that the Transformers Bumblebee spin-off will have a female lead, which will lend to a different, less hyper-masculine tone than Bay's Transformers movies. The visuals throughout the movie were epic - I was already blown away within the first few minutes. It's one of the better movies in the franchise, but why Bay feels he needs over two hours to tell these stories is puzzling. There's no way that almost 2,000 years of direct Transformer involvement is going to have been missed by the entire population, but that's just being pedantic, I know.
