United States revokes blocked program to protect immigrant parents

The Department of Homeland security said on Thursday that a 2012 memorandum that created the Daca program "will remain in effect".

The program meant to keep immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with renewable work permit for two years. The first amnesty, DACA, was for illegal-immigrant children who were brought here while they were young, have lived here for years, and who meet certain other qualifications. The never-implemented program was created by President Barack Obama in 2014 to protect people living in the United States illegally who have children who are US citizens or legal residents.

DAPA was blocked by the courts from implementation, which the Department of Homeland Security cited as a reason for rescinding the program.

Immigration restriction group NumbersUSA said it was "thrilled" that DAPA was rescinded, but wanted to see Trump continue to DACA. And that, sometimes, has been a bottleneck to how we think about immigration. "No work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates", the guidance reads.

White House officials said on June 16 that the president had not made a decision about what would happen with the program in the long term, and that he may still shut it down and deport the Dreamers or cancel their work permits.

"Many working class Americans voted for President Trump because of his promise to combat illegal immigration and secure U.S.jobs for American workers", he said.

"Our nation's immigration laws need to be improved, but Congress has the sole authority - not the president - to listen to the American people and write the law", said Rep.

There was also broad support in favor of the Dreamers among the voters who helped elect Trump in November: 73 percent of those voters said the Dreamers should be allowed to say in the country, with nearly half (48 percent) of those voters also saying they should have a path to becoming US citizens.

Lenka, who is the mother of two dreamers and one American-born citizen, and who didn't want to be identified in the press by her full name, was relieved by Trump's decision to stay the DACA program. Kelly said he made the decision after consulting with the USA attorney general. Unlike under Obama, the Trump administration is arresting more undocumented immigrants with no criminal records and pursuing a wall on the southwestern border.

Numerous 800,000 immigrants protected by the DACA program did not know that they were in the country illegally, and many reportedly attended American schools from a young age.

The Trump administration will continue to allow reprieve for immigrants who illegally entered the U.S.as children.

"The fact that the most radical president of our time made a decision to keep DACA shows that there's something there", said Palacios, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania previous year with Tiffany Trump, the president's daughter.

Immigration enforcement was one of the top priorities of Trump during his election campaign.
