Antonio Conte assembles five-man Chelsea transfer shortlist, £230m

Chelsea are interested in signing Jairo Riedewald

Costa saw a big-money move to China fall through in January while his former club Atletico, who are keen to bring the 28-year-old back to the Vicente Calderon, can not register new players until January 2018 because of a transfer ban.

The Spain global revealed Blues boss Antonio Conte has made it clear that he does not feature in his plans ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League season, leaving Costa searching for a new club.

Costa has publicly expressed his desire to return to Atletico, whom he departed for Chelsea in 2014, but the La Liga side are banned from signing new players until 2018.

June 11 Plucky Macedonia gave Spain a tough test in their World Cup Group G qualifier in Skopje on Sunday but despite a superb goal from Stefan Ristovski the Spaniards still ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from David Silva and Diego Costa.

Costa is expected to leave Chelsea this summer despite firing them to the Premier League title.

"I haven't spoken to Chelsea yet but they know I'm focusing on this tournament so the discussions will happen after", he said. I care a lot for Atlético and I will continue to care for them very much whether I join them or another team.

The recent leaking of a text exchange between manager Antonio Conte and the player has confirmed multiple reports.

The Chelsea squad are due back for pre-season training at their Surrey HQ on July 7 but the ex-Italy chief Conte plans to return a couple of days beforehand to make sure he is fully prepared. He was linked with a move to China throughout the January transfer window.

"I don't know", Costa said when asked about his future by TVE. "In life there are good and bad people. Now it's up to Chelsea to decide if I should be looking for then a new team". Costa alluded to this on Thursday, again citing football's showpiece tournament, saying he wasn't sure he could afford to not play until January in the season before the World Cup.

"I just have to look for another team to play for", he said.

Diego Costa will not be at Chelsea next season.

"The most important thing is that my team-mates want me".
