In her Facebook statement Saturday, Sharapova wrote that her next scheduled tournament will be at Stanford, California, which begins July 31.

The five-time Grand Slam victor has not played since suffering the injury during her second-round match at the Italian Open on May 16.

The news means Sharapova will also withdraw from the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, for which she had been granted a wild card.

Two years before that, at 17, Sharapova won her first major title at Wimbledon.
