Royals' Moustakas homers to halt Astros' win streak at 11

LEADING OFF Mc Cutchen heating up Robbie Ray on roll

On a night in which Alex Gordon finally homered, snapping a stretch of 192 at-bats without a blast, the Royals laid waste to another streak, stopping the Astros' winning streak at 11 games.

The Houston Astros will look to bounce back after having their 11-game winning streak snapped thanks to a 9-7 loss in game two on Tuesday.

"We just kept battling until the ninth inning, where they mixed in a hard right that we didn't see coming and, boom, the game's over". "Just doing what we can, keeping the line moving and we were able to do that tonight".

Moustakas drove an 0-1 pitch from Ken Giles (1-2) out to right field with Salvador Perez aboard. "He's getting better every day", Royals manager Ned Yost said. Guys were continuing to compete offensively. Whit Merrifield hit a three-run double with two outs in the inning to tie it at 7.

Up 7-3 in the eighth inning and on the brink of winning their 12th straight game, the Astros were the victims of a ferocious Royals comeback.

The Royals trailed 7-1 entering the bottom of the fourth.

"I was thinking I might have to slide headfirst", Gordons said. With closer Wade Davis on paternity leave, Mike Montgomery pitched 3 1-3 innings for his second save in his first appearance since May 28. Royals relievers Kevin McCarthy, Travis Wood and Minor worked 5 1/3 scoreless innings after rookie Jakob Junis was pulled. Khris Davis drove in two runs, Adam Rosales hit a tiebreaking single with two outs in the fifth and Jed Lowrie added two hits. "He throws a hundred with a banger slider". "I know he's sore", Hinch said. "We came out in the second round, and they kind of knocked us back a little bit. The main thing is I didn't want to miss the plate". He put a good swing on it. "We're going to get him a guard to protect his hand when he slides. Tonight wasn't his night".

Jorge Bonifacio homered for the Royals, but Ian Kennedy (0-6) gave up four runs and six hits over five innings.

Yuli Gurriel, who hit a three-run ninth-inning homer Monday, stroked a two-run single in a three-run third.

George Springer opened the inning with a double to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, advanced to third on Josh Reddick's bunt single and scored on Jose Altuve's sacrifice fly to Lorenzo Cain.

Carlos Beltran hit his 429th career home run in the Astros' four-run fourth, giving them the six-run advantage. Reddick's double scored Springer with the first run of the inning.

Justin Smoak hit his 15th home run in the eighth off Liam Hendriks, but the Blue Jays couldn't do enough to support J.A. Happ (0-4).

The seemingly unstoppable Astros attempt to match a club record with their 12th consecutive win when they play at last-place Kansas City.
