Mom says man injected her with drugs after 'Baby Doe' death

Rachelle Bond testifies in Suffolk Superior Court under questioning from assistant district attorney David Deakin in Boston on Monday

2-year-old Bella Bond was known for months only as "Baby Doe" as authorities struggled to identify her after her body washed up on a Boston Harbor island.

She was at first known as "Baby Doe" on billboards and posters.

"How did you feel when Bella was born?"

According to Deakin, after Bond and McCarthy dumped Bella's body, the pair proceeded to become "intoxicated for several days after". It was her second day on the witness stand.

Rachelle Bond says her boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, killed Bella in a fit of rage, but the defense team argues she has major credibility issues.

"He had nothing to do with her tragic death". Shapiro subjected the 41-year-old Rachelle Bond to an intense cross examination.

Bond testified on cross examination that she ran from police when they approached her home. "He called her 'honey, ' 'good girl, '" the Boston Globe reports.

Shapiro also prodded Bond over the day of Bella's death. Bond was allegedly beaten to death by McCarthy in 2015. McCarthy was supposed to get the auto on his birthday, she said, but he wound up getting it later on in June. "Dates didn't matter much", she explained. Rachelle Bond testified last week that McCarthy used the vehicle to drive the girl's body to nearby water, weighted it down inside a garbage bag and a duffel bag, and threw it into the water.

Rachelle Bond says she got out of bed to check on McCarthy and Bella, and walked into the bedroom just in time to see McCarthy punch Bella, killing her. "The prosecution's case rests entirely upon the uncorroborated and unbelievable testimony from Rachelle Bond". She remained nameless until that September, when a friend of McCarthy's, Michael Sprinsky, alerted authorities.

Through smiles and tears, Rachelle Bond reflected on her daughter's brief life before the jury. For instance, Bond said nothing to police about performing CPR on her dying daughter, but she didn't say anything about that to the police.

"When you use, it kind of takes you out of reality", Bond said.

Bond responded, "I don't know, honestly I don't have an answer for that, um, I was scared of".

McCarthy has claimed he had no involvement with the little girl's disappearance.

She told jurors that she made a mistake by not calling 911 for help after McCarthy allegedly fatally attacked Bella.
