House intel Dem would review Kushner's clearance

Donald Trump and his senior advisor Jared Kushner arrive for a meeting with manufacturing CEOs at the White House in Washington

The latest allegation made against the Trump administration stems from a report by the Washington Post claiming Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and a top adviser, secretly attempted to set up a private communications channel with Russian leaders in December.

Mr Kushner's lawyers said he was willing to talk with federal and congressional investigators about his foreign contacts and his work on the Trump campaign.

"You've got the ambassador to Russian Federation reporting back to Moscow on an open channel", Graham said.

Defence attorneys and former FBI agents say that one likely area of interest for investigators would be Kushner's own meetings with Russians, given that such encounters with a variety of Trump associates are at the root of the sprawling probe, now overseen by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.

"We need to get to the bottom of these allegations", Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said on ABC's "This Week".

Schiff said he could neither confirm nor deny the reports about Kushner, but if they are accurate, "it's obviously very concerning".

The White House did not acknowledge the meeting with the Russian ambassador or Mr Kushner's attendance until March.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the Fake News media".

U.S. Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he isn't yet ready to seek a revocation of Kushner's clearance. If the Federal Bureau of Investigation wants to speak with someone, it's not necessarily an indication of involvement or complicity, said Treacy, who did two tours in Moscow as the FBI's legal attache.

Federal investigators and several congressional committees are looking into any connections between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, including allegations that there may have been collaboration to help Mr Trump and harm his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

"I don't know why people do it, particularly when it's classified, particularly when it's ongoing, the event was still really ongoing", he said. "Talking with him directly and getting him to answer any and all questions as he said he would do, would probably be the prudent course of action".

On Thursday, U.K. officials temporarily suspended intelligence sharing with USA agencies after details about the terror investigation were leaked to the press.

"My dashboard warning light was clearly on", Clapper said.

Kushner had at least three previously undisclosed contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States during and after the 2016 presidential campaign, seven current and former U.S. officials told Reuters.

"I don't trust this story as far as I can throw it", Graham said of the Kushner media reports. "Whatever the communication is, it comes back to the government and is shared".

Earlier Sunday, Trump tweeted three times about "fake news" and anonymous sources, amid the growing Russia story that last week also includes a report, based on unnamed sources, that Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, had two previously undisclosed conversations before Trump took over the White House with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
