Police arrest 14th man in Manchester bombing inquiry

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Shoreham-by-Sea, some 400 kilometers (250 miles) from Manchester, "on suspicion on offences contrary to the terrorism act", Greater Manchester Police said on Twitter Monday morning.

The arrest means that 14 men are now in custody in Britain for suspected roles in Britain's worst attack in a decade.

In addition, police raided a property in a southern Manchester suburb as they step up their investigation into last week's bombing that killed 22 people.

In an interview with the BBC on Sunday, Rudd acknowledged some members of Abedi's network could still be free.

A total of 16 arrests have been made in the investigation so far.

Police say that 1,000 people are working on the investigation, trying to track down Abedi's accomplices and piece together his movements in the days before he detonated a bomb at an Ariana Grande concert.

The Home Secretary said it was up to police and the intelligence services, with her approval, to decide when to request an exclusion order and insisted they have the "right tools".

"The information came from the interception of his communications by US federal agents, who had been investigating Abedi since the middle of 2016, and from information unearthed in Libya, where his family was linked to terrorist groups", the source further said, adding "Following this USA tip-off, Abedi and other members of the gang were scrutinized by MI5".

Abedi was known to British security services before the bombing, the government has said, but Rudd declined to comment on exactly what had been known about him. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the atrocity. But it still remains at "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely.

"What we are doing is challenging the people who are delivering end-to-end encryption to work with us so that we have a way of keeping people safe", she said.

Police raided more homes on Monday as the relentless search for the network behind the suicide bombing continued a week on from the attack.

Abedi was already placed on terror watch list in the United States after he came under the scanner in 2016 during an investigation into terror groups operating in Libya, the Independent reported.

In the Libyan capital Tripoli, Abedi's younger brother 20-year-old Hashem and their father, Ramadan, are being held by special forces linked to the country's interior ministry.

She said the government had "never understated" the threat of a terror attack in the United Kingdom, adding: "We have to level with people".
