CCTV images of Manchester bomber on night of attack released

Manchester-born Abedi, of Libyan origin, injured more than 100 people when he detonated his explosive as concertgoers left a show by U.S. teen idol Ariana Grande.

Police have released a photograph of Salman Abedi on the night of the Manchester terror attack, taken from CCTV footage.

As the country continued to mourn worst atrocity to hit Britain since the July 7 attacks in 2005, concert-goers also returned to Manchester for a performance by indie rock band The Courteeners at the Old Trafford cricket ground.

Police made two arrests yesterday, one in Moss Side and one in Rusholme. The troops will gradually be withdrawn from Monday, May said.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, Britain's top counterterrorism police officer, said authorities have dismantled a "large part" of the network around bomber Salman Abedi. "There will be more arrests and there will be more searches", he said.

Fresh arrests have been made in the Manchester bombing probe after police carried out a controlled explosion during a raid on an address in the Cheetham Hill area of the city.

Greater Manchester Police did not reveal where it was taken or at what stage of the evening.

In the Libyan capital Tripoli, Abedi's younger brother 20-year-old Hashem and their father, Ramadan, are being held by special forces linked to the country's interior ministry.

One of the searches was at an apartment in a Manchester high-rise that British media say was rented by Abedi in the months before the attack.

Landlord Aimen Elwafi found the property with children's stickers scribbled out on the walls, a metal rod in the bath, material cut up and the electricity turned off, friend Mohammed El-Hudarey told the BBC.

Armed police mingled with spectators as crowds gathered to watch the runners, including mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

London police say extra security is being added for major sporting events this weekend including the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

"What we are doing is challenging the people who are delivering end-to-end encryption to work with us so that we have a way of keeping people safe", she said.

Manchester is slowly returning to normal, though the damaged arena and adjacent Victoria train station remain closed. "They picked the wrong people to mess with this time".

"Our response [to the bombing] must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder, and to live more kindly and generously than we did before. We can't let the terrorists win by dissuading us from going about our normal business".
