Jon Stewart addresses #FireColbert controversy:

When Jon Stewart took his seat opposite Late Show host Stephen Colbert Tuesday, he was visibly uneasy.

John Stewart has come forward to defend Stephen Colbert for his recent abusive on-air tirade directed at US President Donald Trump.

Why? Well first of all, the entire hullabaloo turned out to be largely drummed up by right-wing provocateurs.

Colbert has been making a lot of headlines for his diatribe last week against Donald Trump, which included one extra-raunchy joke that some labeled homophobic. Sure, but now we're talking about a line comedians aren't allowed to cross, and we promise that scenario doesn't end well when drawn out.

"You see a no-talent guy like Colbert", the President told Time.

'We're a family, ' said Stewart, pretending to choke up, 'but I guess I'm realizing that you'll all spread your wings and leave me'. You were the ones out in the field, I'm in a studio surrounded by craft services.

"That's right, it's me - Steve Carell", Oliver said. "Like, it's the difference between insult and injury".

Stewart, a long-time champion of animal rights who now runs a rescue farm, noted that on late night TV "there is a response and affirmation you don't necessarily get among sheep and goats" - though the Late Show monologue reax may have suggested otherwise.

Colbert responded to the backlash last Wednesday by saying that if he had to do it over, he would "change a few words that were cruder than they needed to be".

Bee then entered, complete with enormous curly hair, in shock that Colbert was leaving in the middle of George W. Bush's presidency. Stewart recalled doing a O'Reilly's show and when he left the building, he admitted, he saw little heads popping out of offices, similar to what it is showed in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", where the children in the mine plead to be taken out of it.

"We went out to a cross burning in the summertime, as you do", Colbert said.

Actually, "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" has beaten "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon" for the past 14 weeks in a row - three months - and the margin has been growing. Eight years later he got his own show, "The Colbert Report", in which he satirically played a Bill O'Reilly-esque conservative talking head, may he rest in truthiness. The scene showed Bee entering the room, with a perm and a jacket, and she started lamenting about Colbert's departure from the show. "I mean if he's gone, who's going to investigate Russia's ties to - Ohhhhhhhhhhh".

Stewart explained that he misses how his involvement in the show helped him "make sense" of the news.
