Teen gets free nuggets from Wendys, breaks Twitter record

Wendys logo

In April, Carter Wilkerson asked Wendy's how many retweets he'd need to get free chicken nuggets for a year.

Wilkerson's target of 18 million retweets is astronomically high, but Wendy's has already promised the determined teen a year of fried snacks for his efforts.

Admittedly, Wilkerson's response, "consider it done", hasn't reached that particular goal yet.

More than a month later, Carter plea to Twitter's cold, unfeeling void had only managed to rack up a mere 3.4 million RTs or so.

A man will have his nuggs. Previously, the most shared tweet was Ellen DeGeneres' Oscars selfie, which Guinness said had 3,430,249 retweets as of Tuesday.

Wendy's says Wilkerson has earned the nuggets despite not hitting the 18 million mark. "That's good for the nuggets and good for a $100k donation to [the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.] Consider it done".

Carter Wilkerson has seen his popularity on the social media site spike.

The charity is a Wendy's affiliated nonprofit that finds permanent homes for children in foster care.

So exactly how many calories is Wilkerson committing to with his daily dose of delicious chicken nuggets?

Carter's certificate read: 'This certificate certifies that Carter Wilkinson has the most retweeted tweets in the history of ever (sorry Ellen) #nuggsforcarter #consideritdone'.

Wilkerson also got some help from DeGeneres who featured the teenager on her talk show a few weeks ago.

"Wendy's leveraged the unique conversation that happens only on Twitter into national prominence for their brand, creating a call for Retweets that inspired unprecedented engagement". Assuming Wendy's gives him a daily allotment of one four-piece chicken nuggets, he'll eat 180 calories a day of nugs.
