"Superstar" Smith lands PGA title

PGA Zurich Classic of New Orleans- Final Round

Kevin Kisner sent shockwaves through the remaining Zurich Classic of New Orleans crowd when he chipped in for eagle on the 72nd hole to force a playoff on Sunday.

Young Australian Cameron Smith faces another restless night before playing off for a maiden US PGA Tour title and million-dollar payday alongside Swedish teammate Jonas Blixt in New Orleans.

But Kisner, who was in team with Scott Brown, had other ideas, taking the tournament to a play-off that will take place today. "Yeah, we just got on the wrong side of momentum this week". None of the players could hole their putt to secure a win with a birdie so the group went back to the 18th tee for a second time. "I knew (Blixt and Smith) were going to make birdie".

Smith and Blixt led by one shot entering the final hole of Sunday's rain-delayed fourth round.

Fifteen-year-old Victoria Tip-Aucha will create history tomorrow when she becomes the first woman to play on the MENA Tour. Also in contention are Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer, five shots behind - although they could have been several shots closer if not for some uncharacteristic misses of short putts by both players.

The Dornoch man is projected to sit 10th on this season's money-list on the back of his latest effort on the PGA Tour's feeder circuit. The 33-year-old Blixt has won twice, but not since 2013.

Cameron Smith celebrates after sinking a birdie to win the Zurich Classic.

Sweden's Blixt and Australia's Smith have played 54 holes without a bogey at TPC Louisiana, where the format of two-man teams is a first on the PGA Tour in 36 years. Kisner and Blixt stuck their approach shots, Smith put it on the green from a hard lie in the rough and Brown went over the green.

The two teams traded pars for the first three holes, playing 18, 18 and 9 before Smith's birdie.

Both teams finished four rounds at 27 under par.

"Blixt said of the comeback by Kisner and Brown, "(Smith and I) were confident about our two games the whole week, so I wasn't really stressed out about it. The Zurich began with 80 two-player teams, with players choosing their teammates. That was especially the case on the best-ball second and final rounds as well as the playoff - players played their own balls and teams took the better score per hole.

The final round will be a better ball format, in which Blixt and Smith excelled on Friday.
