The actor also dismissed reports that he was becoming the Malaysian tourism ambassador, after he met the country's Prime Minister Najib Razak at his residence in Chennai on Friday.

An MoU was also signed between the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on mutual recognition of educational qualifications. Various issues, including terrorism, are expected to come up during the talks.

"Your own leadership in countering radicalisation and terrorism is an inspiration for the entire region".

The strategic trade agreement will also enhance overall economic competitiveness and business connectivity in the region, said Najib who is also the Finance Minister.

Speaking at a joint interaction with leading South Indian chambers of industry here, the visiting prime minister said with Malaysia's highly diversified economy, strong manufacturing foundation, developed infrastructure and connectivity that meets worldwide standards, there is enormous potential for further cooperation between both countries.


The President said commercial and investment relations have become the mainstay of India-Malaysia relations.

The visit underlines the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, which have been established for 60 years.

His visit follows the highly successful visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in November 2015. The official pointed out that Malaysian investment to India is around six billion dollars and India's investment is 2.5 billion dollars.

India and Malaysia signed Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation in 1993.

India welcomed the initiative by Malaysia to expand the visa-free programme to Indian nationals from April 1, 2017 until March 31, 2018 under the Electronic Travel Registration and Information system.

"Malaysian companies are participating in many of our infrastructure projects across different states in India", he said.

Speaking from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM Modi said the two countries have built a thriving economic partnership.
