Perez Asks for Democratic Party Staff Resignations

New Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez is asking all paid party employees to resign as he tries to rebuild the embattled organization. Past year saw the abrupt resignation of then-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz as well as a presidential primary that many believed favored Hillary Clinton.

For the Democratic Party to expand the election map, score wins, and possibly survive, they need to reclaim the ground lost in areas that went heavily for Trump and the Republicans.

Perez has also created a transition committee to help him fill the empty seats.

Amidst internal conflict and a push for party reorganization, reports that the DNC asked all staffers to submit their resignations by next month have emerged.

During the 2016 election under former chairwoman Rep.

The Democratic party has had three different leaders in the past year.

"What we're trying to do is culture change", [Perez] told NBC News between stops of a listening tour in Michigan Friday. "You can't land the plane, shut it down, and close it until further notice".

Former Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was ousted as the party struggled from the primary election cycle to the general with their nominee Hillary Clinton.

The committee, whose members were told they are not eligible for DNC jobs, is also reviewing the DNC's contracts with vendors and consultants, a source of complaints from many Democrats.

Perez was selected as the chairman in February.

NBC News notes that Perez held a meeting with his deputy chair as well as Sanders, Schumer, and several others to flush out the roles of the DNC's five vice chairs.

The comments echo those he made in the wake of the DNC vote when he said he hoped Perez wold seize the "real opportunity in his hands [.] which is to understand that in fact, the way the Democratic Party has been run for decades has not worked".
