The Kushners could be the next owners of the Marlins

Owning sports teams is a popular pastime for NY real estate developers.

In 2012, the Marlins moved into a gleaming new ballpark, with many artistic flourishes inspired by Loria, who made his fortune as an art dealer.

At this point, it's clear that owner Jeffrey Loria is serious in attempts to sell the club, even if the agreement that is now in place does not work out. Kushner's son is Jared Kushner, who is now one of the top aides to President Donald Trump.

Sources tell Forbes that a "handshake agreement" is in place for the team.

The Miami Marlins reportedly have an agreement to be sold for more than $1 billion. Furthermore, he says that Kushner would not be approved as an Major League Baseball owner because he has served time in federal prison for tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign contributions. "The Commissioner's officer has not heard directly or indirectly of any conversation involving Charles Kushner".

There could be several other individuals or groups interested in buying the Marlins, and it's unclear if Kushner was the unnamed real estate owner Forbes reported had agreed to purchase the club.

According to Forbes, the potential buyer is illiquid and would thus have to take on more debt than Major League Baseball might be comfortable with in order to satisfy the $1.6 billion price tag. Kushner is a New York City real estate mogul. However, the Marlins have struggled to even make the postseason, let alone post a winning record. But he will start making at least $25 annually in 2018.
