Republicans Introduce Bill to "Terminate the Environmental Protection Agency"

Resuscitating evidence-based policy

President Donald Trump briefly advocated abolishing the EPA while running for president, but backed off that position and later said he was in favor of keeping it. He is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate, in Republican control after last November's election, but a date for the vote has not been set. "And the states have an equally important role in protecting the environment and their own states".

"As of 02/06/2017 text has not been received for H.R.861 - To terminate the Environmental Protection Agency". A coalition of almost two-dozen conservative advocacy groups has backed his nomination, insisting that Pruitt has "demonstrated his commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring the EPA works for American families and consumers". The suit alleges Pruitt has failed to respond to multiple records requests seeking access to more than 3,000 emails with Koch Industries and other coal, oil, and gas corporations, as well as the corporate-funded Republican Attorney General's Association (RAGA).

The protests were part of an all-out assault Monday by current and former EPA employees against the Trump administration.

An EPA administrator sent a letter in November to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, saying a magnitude 5.0 natural disaster happened despite state and federal action to curb wastewater injection. "No agency has more integrity when it comes to using science and being transparent than the EPA".

Organizer Nicole Cantello, chief steward of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 704, said employees are alarmed by Pruitt's nomination and Trump's environmental rhetoric overall. Agency officials had sent out an ethics advisory that gave current employees guidance on what they could and could not do "when acting for their free speech rights", Cantello added.

In the build up to the issuing of the legislation to congress, Congressman Matt Gaetz had said that if his legislation were to pass, all of its activities would fall under different state entities in order to prevent people from experiencing the "oppressive jurisdiction of the EPA".

The letter highlighted Pruitt's "record and public statements", which it said "strongly suggest" that he does not agree with the agency's guiding principles or vision. While Gaetz is confident that environmental regulatory power would simply shift to the states if the EPA is disbanded, legal experts told the News Journal that might not be the case.
