Trump praises black icons: He does know Frederick Douglass is dead, right?

Trump rehashes MLK bust report at Black History Month event

Uh, say what? Did President Donald Trump just fire 'Black History Month?' February has been the time when America celebrates the contributions made by its citizens of color, but after four decades of going by 'Black History Month, ' Trump reportedly has given the name the boot!

The White House has said Trump plans to issue an official proclamation recognizing Black History Month, which has been recognized by every USA president since 1976.

"Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who's done an incredible job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice".

One such man was Frederick Douglass, the ex-slave turned abolitionist, author, suffragist, editor and diplomat.

Sean Spicer, asked about Trump's comment on Wednesday, sought to clear up how Trump thinks Douglass will be recognized "more and more".

The bust is "cherished", he insisted, and one of "the favourite things" alongside busts of Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson, who previously held the office Trump now does.

Douglass, who died in 1895, is getting a lot of attention and praise this week for doing an "amazing" job.

She had no words, which may have been a true exercise of restraint on her part, given that Hillary lost the electoral college (while winning the popular vote by nearly 3 million) to someone who devoted a Black History Month speech to himself.

First of all, African Americans have suffered erasure and exclusion in many ways; does the President's ignorance have an impact? "Let's be honest. This is the same person who left Jews off of the Holocaust Remembrance Day", the Daily Show host, 32, said, referring to Trump's White House statement last month that pointedly left out the word "Jews". Second, it's Frederick Douglass.

He then talked about the monuments and museums in Washington that teach children about America's black heroes, like Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks.

Well, this is Black History Month, so this is our little breakfast, our little get-together. Among African-Americans, Trump got 8 percent of the vote, slightly better than Republican Mitt Romney's 6 percent against then-President Barack Obama in 2012, according to national exit polls.

Many Americans remain hopeful that Trump will bring positive changes.
