Senate Committee Approves Pruitt As EPA Head

Senate committees advanced the president's nominees for attorney general, treasury secretary, and health and human services secretary with Republican votes alone.

"This committee has conducted an extremely thorough and fair process of reviewing attorney general Pruitt's nomination", Barrasso said on Thursday. "I intend to get the committee back to where it once was, and I will use every tool at my disposal, procedural or otherwise, to make sure this doesn't become the new normal for the Senate Finance Committee". Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). Republicans, who control the chamber, could change Senate rules that now allow the minority party to insist on a three-fifths majority to confirm Supreme Court nominees. Yesterday, the committee did not vote.

Senate rules require at least one minority member be present for committee votes to proceed.

The Great Lakes are so important to our economy and our MI way-of-life, which is why we need an EPA Administrator we can trust to protect them. He claimed that Republicans' decision, in 2013, to boycott a nomination hearing of Obama EPA head Gina McCarthy was, therefore, different.

The Senate parliamentarian had ruled that Thursday's procedure was proper under the the body's rules, Barrasso said, though he added that Democrats' boycott had "put us in...uncharted waters".

With a row of empty seats to his left, EPW Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) didn't mince words in explaining why Republicans chose to suspend committee rules and press forward with Pruitt's nomination.

Suh urges the full Senate to reject Pruitt's nomination because he's "uniquely unfit for the job". Yet Mr. Pruitt has sued the EPA repeatedly to prevent it from enforcing the law and even from relying on clear scientific evidence. He's opposed the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Air Act's authority and is regarded by environmental groups as a climate denier. "He's dodged and given evasive answers to question after question about his record, one that is rife with conflicts-of-interest".

"This is a seat that was stolen from the former President Obama, that has never been done in US history before", Sen. They tried the same stunt again today, only this time they snubbed EPA nominee Scott Pruitt too. "The president is entitled to have his Cabinet appointments considered". He refuses to discuss his deep connections to companies he would oversee as EPA Administrator.

Democrats insist extra time to consider Trump's nominees is needed. "His office has identified more than 3,000 documents in response to this request, but has yet to release any".

In the past, Pruitt has questioned climate change.

The panel's Democrats slammed the GOP's maneuver as "irresponsible", citing Pruitt's failure to give full answers to numerous questions and requests they have.
