Kim Kardashian Stolen Jewelry Melted Down for Pennies

Kardashian was blamed by the French police chief for'flaunting her jewellery on social media in the aftermath of the crime

Though 10 suspects - many of them elderly French gangsters - have been arrested for the incident, police have said that it is unlikely that Kim will see any of the stolen jewelry again.

According to Le Monde newspaper, Aomar Ait Khedache, 60, whose nickname is Omar le Vieux (Old Omar), told police: "So that the jewels wouldn't be recognised, we took a joint decision to melt them down. Pretty shocking since the value of the melted down jewelry was $1.6 million". Pictured: Kim Kardashian at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in NY on August 28, 2016.

According to the testimony, everything was melted down save for the most expensive piece: Kim's 20-carat emerald cut engagement ring, which is worth an estimated $4 million.

"He came back with bars", said Khedache of the man who melted the jewelry, who returned with over 800 grams of the melted precious metals that were stolen from Kim.

Earlier this month, dozens of people were rounded up in Paris by French police and charged with various crimes for their roles in the robbery. It detailed the events that took place on the day she was robbed inside her hotel room.

The man behind the heist, who has been dubbed the "The Old Man", also admitted that he thought the ordeal would be a "very simple affair", and that to access Kim was pretty easy. "They're going to shoot me in the back", she tells sisters Khloé and Kourtney.

He said: "The jewels were shown on the internet, and (she said) that she didn't wear fakes. the time she would arrive in France, you just had to look at the internet and you knew everything, absolutely everything". Kim Kardashian West also has yet to comment on the recently released confession of the robbery's mastermind.
