Ayew brothers help Ghana reach semis, Egypt edge Morocco

Ayew brothers help Ghana reach semis, Egypt edge Morocco

They are the sons of Ghana football legend Abedi "Pele" Ayew, ranked among the greatest African footballers of all time.

Brothers Jordan and Andre Ayew were both on target, with the latter sealing victory from the spot to set up a last-four clash with Cameroon in Franceville on Thursday.

The next match is a North Africa derby, Egypt Pharaohs versus the Atlas Lions of Morocco.

The record seven-time champion, held back by years of political upheaval back home, returned to the last four for the first time since 2010 with an 87th-minute victor over Morocco in the last quarterfinal in Gabon.

But instead it is Egypt who progress to the last four, their bid to win the title for a record eighth time still very much alive.

Morocco's Mbark Boussoufa had earlier curled a shot from outside the box against the crossbar and striker Aziz Bouhaddouz missed a sitter from close range.

Two goals from the Ayew brother ensured Ghana made it to the semifinal despite Mpoku pulling one back for the Leopards. "He will have tests and we hope if we manage to reach the final that he can return".

At 1-1, the definitive moment came when Christian Atsu sped onto a pass late on and was tripped by Lomalisa Mutambala, giving Andre Ayew his chance from the spot.

West Ham's Andre Ayew then coolly dispatched a winning penalty, sending Matampi the wrong way to seal the win.

For a brief lack of concentration a well-executed free kick located Paul M'poku at the end of the box and delivered a curler at the edge of the box which beat keeper Braimah in the 67th minute for the equalizer.
