Madeleine Albright: I will 'register as Muslim'

Madeleine Albright ready to “register as Muslim” in response to Trump executive orders

"Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me". Albright also tweeted Wednesday that "America must remain open to people of all faiths & backgrounds".

But Albright? She's "ready to register" as Muslim.

Albright was the first woman to serve as US secretary of state.

They both declared publicly on Twitter on Wednesday that they "stand ready" to register in defiance of the new president if he takes executive action that affects immigrants traveling to the U.S. After proposing his controversial Muslim ban, Trump later said he would impose a system of "extreme vetting" and regularly floated the idea of a Muslim registry to track Muslims already in the country.

But Albright - who moved to the USA when she was 11 - isn't having any of it.

President Trump during his campaign proposed a temporary ban on foreign Muslims entering the USA and at one point suggested requiring Muslims already in the country to register.

The network reported Wednesday that officials will be ordered to prevent all persons trying to enter the country from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen for at least 30 days.

In a tweet Tuesday, Trump said: "Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow".

"If you force Muslims to register, we will all register as Muslims", Steinem said during a speech at the Women's March on Washington, drawing raucous cheers.

Albright believes she needs to show support to Muslim Americans who have felt persecuted by President Donald Trump.

According to the BBC, many people are vowing to stand in solidarity with the Muslim population of America following Trump's election.
