White House offers 'alternative facts' to media

In the first press briefing from the White House by Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, the administration called out the media for accurately portraying the numbers of people at the inauguration.

Todd initially asked her to explain why press secretary Sean Spicer was sent out Saturday to "litigate" the crowd size issue.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer harshly criticized the media in the United States on Saturday for its coverage of Donald Trump's inauguration. "They are falsehoods", said Mr Todd.

Conway then cited the failed agenda of Barack Obama, with the loss of health insurance for millions of Americans, the 16.1 million women still living in poverty, and the billions spent of education that has done next to nothing to improve standards or conditions. He had one question for her: why did Trump's administration feel the need to dispatch Spicer to tell the press lies about Trump's crowd size that were easily proven false?

Donald Trump's adviser Kellyanne Conway said earlier today that the president won't be releasing his tax returns.

Twitter users criticized Conway's television appearance by coming up with their own "alternative facts".

And The Post's Fact Checker gave Spicer Four Pinocchios, adding "we wish we could give five", after examining his other statements.

"I'm not releasing the tax returns because, as you know, they're under audit", Trump said at the time, CNN reports.

The new USA president took a swipe at the media over reports about the size of the crowds for his swearing-in ceremony on Friday. He said that 420,000 people used the metro on Trump's Inauguration Day, compared to 317,000 for Obama's 2013 ceremony.

There's Sisyphus and his rock, Tantalus and his grapes, and NBC's Chuck Todd attempting to get a straight answer out of Kellyanne Conway.

'The way that you just laughed at me is.very representative of the way we're treated by the press'.

Aerial shots of thin crowds aside, there isn't an official estimate to definitively refute the claim that Trump's inauguration topped Obama's record-breaking crowd of 1.8 million people. I said, wait a minute, I made a speech.

"There's an obsession by the media to delegitimize this president, and we are not going to sit around and let it happen", White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said on "Fox News Sunday".
