CIA Director Nominee Pompeo Stands by Creepy

Sen. Richard Burr said he didn't want to get too "technical" in explaining why it wasn't the Intelligence Committee's job to investigate possible links between the Russian government and Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

Politico's report adds further explanation from Burr's spokeswoman, Becca Watkins: "Sen".

The committee inquiry announced Friday will also include a review of the intelligence community's assessment from January 6, which concluded that Russian Federation orchestrated a prolonged hacking and propaganda operation aimed at interfering in the US elections.

The U.S. intelligence community issued a report earlier this month saying that the Russian government and intelligence agencies, at the direction of the country's president, Vladimir Putin, waged a campaign in an attempt to influence the U.S. election.

Asked about the hacking, Pompeo said he was very clear about what he called an "aggressive action" ordered by the Russian leadership, and accepted the USA intelligence report on the matter.

Pompeo has been critical of the Obama administration's nuclear deal with Iran, which granted Tehran sanctions relief for rolling back its nuclear weapons program.

Pompeo, appointed by Trump to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, was asked by U.S. Sen.

"But I think this committee, the American people, demand that if there is publicly available information someone has out there on a public available site we have an obligation to use that information to keep Americans safe".

But at his confirmation hearing in the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, Pompeo assured Harris that he'd treat every CIA employee "in a way that is appropriate and equal" and not work to undermine the benefits same-sex married couples have gained.

"Russia has reasserted itself aggressively, invading and occupying Ukraine, threatening Europe and doing nothing to aid in the defeat of ISIS", Pompeo said, referring to Islamic State militants.

Pompeo said he'd held the same views about marriage when he worked in the private sector, but that he did not discriminate against anyone.

The president-elect said he'd ordered his administration to bring him a report within 90 days that covers all kinds of hacking and how to prevent it. Carson, who was leading the GOP polls at one point during the presidential election before dropping out, was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump as the Housing and Urban Development Secretary because of his "brilliant mind" and passion about "strengthening communities and families within those communities", Trump said in a statement.

US intelligence agencies have wielded broad metadata collection programs in the post-Sept. The hearing was then moved to a different building. Wyden asked if Pompeo would oppose Trump if the president calls for encryption back doors.

Pompeo, a conservative lawmaker from Kansas who is on the House Intelligence Committee, emphasized that he would be a neutral assessor of challenges and threats.

In the four priorities he laid out for the CIA, Pompeo said he also wanted to target the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons, whistleblowers, and budgetary constraints.
