Kris Bryant, Mike Trout win baseball's MVP awards

With the Chicago Cubs' overwhelming success this season and Kris Bryant's central role in it, the main question in the National League MVP race was not whether he would win the award but by how much.

The only player in the Majors to hit.315 with 100+ runs batted in, 100+ runs scored, and 100+ walks - Trout.

Bryant, who put together an incredible season as the Cubs posted the best record in baseball and clinched their first division title in almost a decade, will be looking to win the team's first MVP award since 1998, when Sammy Sosa clubbed 66 home runs and led the Cubs to the National League wild card berth.

After winning the Rookie of the Year award earlier this week, Seager will be looking to bring home another trophy for the Dodgers. Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, who was the unanimous victor of the NL Rookie of the Year award on Monday, finished third. "I mean, winning a World Series, now this".

Rounding out the top 10 in NL MVP voting: Anthony Rizzo, Nolan Arenado, Freddie Freeman, Joey Votto, Yoenis Cespedes, Justin Turner and the Nationals' Max Scherzer (who received 39 total points). He is also the first player ever to win college player of the year, minor league player of the year, rookie of the year and MVP in 4 straight seasons.

"If it wasn't for Anthony and his protection and guidance, I wouldn't have won this award", Bryant said. "I mean, he texted me, and I said the same thing to him".

Trout collected 19 first-place votes to Betts' nine to clear the presumptive favorite by 45 total points in the balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Bryant was the unanimous NL Rookie of the Year after he hit.275 with 26 homers and 99 RBIs last season. Ichiro Suzuki (2001) and Fred Lynn (1975) are the only players to win the awards in the same year. The 25-year-old Angels outfielder has finished no lower than second in MVP voting in each year since his 2012 Rookie of the Year season. "He's just kind of a dream player for any organization". He edged Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts for the award in a surprise vote that was announced Thursday. AL batting champion Jose Altuve of Houston was third, and retiring Red Sox slugger David Ortiz finished sixth in his final year in the majors.
