First taste of wintry weather headed for northern Plains

The system was forecast to move from the Rockies into the Plains region on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, with snow becoming widespread across the region on Wednesday and continuing into Wednesday night.

Friday, it will be partly sunny with a temperature rising to nearly 50 by 9 a.m., then falling to around 42 during the remainder of the day, according to the weather service.

The high winds are expected to last straight into Monday, with intervals of sun and clouds expected with a daytime high of just 42 degrees.

Saturday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation 60 percent. A northwest wind will be 10 to 17 miles per hour, gusting as high as 33 miles per hour.

Rain will taper to showers by Saturday afternoon.

Friday again calls for daily highs right around 60 degrees with mostly sunshine - and mild winds.
