Atlanta Braves: Braves Add Veteran Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey

He would become the first of the 158 major league free agents to switch teams this offseason. General manager John Coppolella made it clear he expects to be a playoff contender next season when the team moves from Turner Field to its new $622 million stadium in suburban Cobb County.

Colón becomes the second former Cy Young Award victor to join the Braves during the offseason, after R.A. Dickey agreed to a one-year contract and US$8 million with Atlanta on Thursday.

Dickey and Colon are 42 and 43 years of age, respectively. The right-hander spent the last four years with the Toronto Blue Jays, going 10-15 with a 4.46 ERA in 2016.

Bartolo Colon, a cult hero among Mets fans for the last three years, has agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves, according to multiple reports.

In his career, Colon will now have pitched for nine teams. He is still fit to pitch in the big leagues, and the Braves knew that while signing him.

Bartolo Colon's memorable tenure with the Mets appears to have come to an end. Atlanta inked knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, 42, to a one-year deal on Thursday. The only two he trails are Nicaraguan Dennis Martinez, with 245 wins, and Dominican Juan Marichal, with 243 wins. WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported that the Mets were surprised by the offer Colon received and are disappointed to lose him. Colon also won the 2005 A.L. Cy Young award for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with an impressive 21-8 3.48 ERA.

The Braves have also talked to the agents for several free-agent catchers including Jason Castro, Nick Hundley and Matt Wieters.

Colon had 44 wins for the Mets over the last three seasons, and before that was an 18-game victor for Oakland at age 40. West led the summer collegiate team to a 30-20 record and the Coastal Plain League Championship in the team's inaugural season this year.
