Police plan arrest in attack on autistic teenage runner

Disabled Black Cross Country Runner Assaulted During Race By Pearl Clutching White Guy

The charge is a violation punishable by up to 15 days in jail, the website reported. " 'How could the man say he was afraid that his wife was going to be mugged when she's sitting in the car?' " Jackson said, recalling the conversation.

Officials in Rochester, a city of 210,000 on Lake Ontario, this week reversed themselves, and on Monday, police sent two officers to take a deposition from Clarise Coleman, mother of Chase Coleman, 15. The avid runner hasn't laced up his running shoes since.

A Pittsford man's alleged assault on an autistic teenager from Syracuse in Cobb's Hill Park has prompted charges of racism and favoritism from the boy's mother.

She filed charges against Martin McDonald for second degree assault, but Rochester City Court Judge Caroline Morrison denied their warrant application. People were upset because Chase is well-liked, she said, and she was flooded with support. "A child is a child is a child".

The Syracuse teen is unable to speak and relatives said he wouldn't have been able to understand anything MacDonald said during the October 14 encounter.

"Instead of using this moment as a teaching moment, and telling this lost kid which way to go, he chose to do the opposite", Clarise explains. "We just keep telling him, 'You didn't do anything wrong. This man did [not]". McDonald could not be reached and his telephone number was not included in the police report. According to eyewitnesses, Martin MacDonald, 57, stopped his auto a few feet away from Chase, who was in the middle of the road and may have been confused about where to run. The deputy's report also indicates MacDonald claimed he thought Coleman was on drugs and mocking him.

According to Syracuse.com, Chase has been racing since seventh grade and he was not physically hurt. According to witnesses, MacDonald yelled "Get out of here" when he pushed Coleman.

"I see a grown man, who is quite tall and fairly heavy. exit the vehicle and give this young man a shove that puts him back 10 feet and flat on his butt", Van Metter told the news site.

Coleman was running on the road and the man became fearful for the safety of his wife who was riding with him in the vehicle.

"Both witnesses saw him get pushed to the ground, and one witness saw the gentleman hovering over him about to hit him and he yelled out", said Coleman's mother, who said the man got back into his auto and drove off.

During a track meet in Rochester, New York, Clarise realized that her son had not passed the marker where she was patiently waiting.

More girls soccer: Senior forward Casey Schmitt scored three goals, including the game-winner in the first overtime, as Mount Sinai defeated Harborfields 3-2 in the Section 11 Class A final.

She's trying to convince him to return. "We just keep apologising to him that happened". "I'm glad we're able to go further than we have in past years".

Fear and apprehension have become the two terms that are loosely used when speaking about people of color.
